Down in the Keys-Day 4

Man, hard times are everywhere.

We can’t drive anywhere without seeing a boat or motorcycle for sale on the side of the road. A lot of little shops and diners are closed down too.. I sure hope we pull out of this bad economy sometime soon. Something’s gotta change.

Today was pretty low-key, we had snapper-sandwiches for breakfast and headed out to fish some of the flats while Rhonda went to visit her daughter in rehab.
Of course there’s always gotta be some shit stirred up or something. It’s incredible how much drama permeates constantly through the house. Rhonda was a fuggin mess this morning before she left, her eyes lost as she hurried about the house looking for things to do. It made me just a little sad and a little crazy to watch her go.
Anyway, our first stop was the World Wide Sportsman of Isla Morada; dad couldn’t wait to show me the cool fish tank housing some big reds, snapper, snook and permit. I also had the chance to see Ernest Hemmingway’s boat that they beautifully restored and had perched in the middle of the store.. That was pretty ding-dang cool.
Later on dad and I got to spend some time out there in the crystal blue flats; and I saw the coolest thing.. A green turtle! One of those cute little buggers you see laying eggs on Melbourne beach! It was a juvenile, and it would poke it’s head up from the water to look at me and dive back down again to eat in the grass. Dad said it’s pretty rare that they come as close as that one did..
After that we hit up BK for a bite to eat and I took my picture beside a giant lobster up the road. Then we came back to the house and napped forever before Rhonda came home to veg out.
Then as soon as it got dark dad and I headed back to Jewfish creek to try our luck before the big party boat docked. Of course we didn’t catch.. but whatever.

Tomorrow we’re headed into the swamp to try our hand at some bass. I’ll pretty much smoke this guy.. Bass are my forte >;3
